This the debut album from the Salem, Oregon band The Widgets. This first press is extremely limited, so don’t wait!
The Widgets were a really young group of kids doing a Pixies meets Hazel kind of thing. They met in high school and were a band for nearly a decade. This was recorded in 1999 and released on their own label Turn Up Sun Records, which for savvy folks is a Pond reference from their song, Magnifier. The Widgets were youthful and full moxie (some say a little too much…) and this album represents a definitive period of Salem’s music scene. A lot of all ages shows were happening and it was a really fun time. In fact, that is a great way to describe this record. A really fun time. The cover is a reworking of the original in a very simple design. The inside a has a poster sized set of liner notes that is packed with show flyers, pictures and annotations on the band and the music scene at the late 90s in Salem.
Full Disclosure: This is David the label owners band. :P
